NHCOA PRAISES NOMINATION OF RAUL YZAGUIRRE AS U.S. AMBASSADOR TO THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
NHCOA Praises Nomination of Raul Yzaguirre as U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic
Washington, D.C. -- The National Hispanic Council on Aging, the nation’s premier organization serving as a national voice for the nation’s older Hispanic adults and their families, applauds the appointment of its Board Chair, Raul Yzaguirre, as the next U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic.
Raul Yzaguirre is one of most influential and respected leaders in the Hispanic community and the U.S., having dedicated his professional life to working toward a nation that offers equal opportunity and equity for all of its citizens.
Dr. Yanira Cruz commented on Mr. Yzaguirre’s contribution to his community and nation: “Raul’s extraordinary vision and commitment to promoting a pluralistic society where everyone is treated equally is admirable. He has inspired many to follow their dreams and continue the quest for shaping a greater America.”
Mr. Yzaguirre is best known for his extraordinary leadership of the National Council of La Raza from 1974 to 2005 during which the organization grew to become the leading national voice for U.S. Hispanics. Mr. Yzaguirre is currently Presidential Professor of Practice and Executive Director of the Center for Community Development and Civil Rights at Arizona State University in Phoenix.
The nomination of Mr. Yzaguirre as U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic recognizes his outstanding record of leadership, diplomacy and strength on behalf of the American people in the U.S. NHCOA foresees that this record will be strengthened and enhanced by his service to the U.S. abroad. “In this new capacity,” said Dr. Cruz, “Raul will be a strong asset and a stellar representative of our nation.”
