Washington, D.C. – The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) will host its annual Virtual Awards Ceremony and Fundraising: United for Equality on Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 6:00 pm to 8:15 pm (EST).
Each year, NHCOA takes time to honor and celebrate trailblazers in the field of aging. In 2021, our organization will honor those who have been working to create fair and equal conditions for older adults, their families, caregivers, and the Latino community as a whole. Our Virtual Awards Ceremony creates a safe space for us to celebrate our shared commitment to Hispanic families and aging issues and to acknowledge the pioneers who are paving the way in these areas. This event is NHCOA’s largest fundraiser event of the year.
Dr. Yanira Cruz, President and CEO of NHCOA, states that, “We stand united for equity to address systemic and structural barriers that are keeping many in our communities from aging well. As we prepare for a new year, we look forward to the implementation of transformational policies across our nation. The new and historic infrastructure legislation passed will serve to allow older adults to age in place, in the comfort of their home and communities. It will also create better paying jobs for caregivers. NHCOA is grateful for all the contributions of the luminaries that have made important strides to advancing equity, especially those being recognized this year. While we have made important progress, much more remains to get done in the area of health, economic security, and housing. Now is the moment to come together to forge a brighter future.”
“AARP is sponsoring this year’s ceremony to celebrate the trailblazers who are working to create fair and equitable outcomes for older Latinos, their families, and caregivers. We are committed to positively impacting the lives of Hispanic/Latino older adults and their families through advocacy, programs, and education, so they can have the resources and tools to age well,” said Yvette Peña, AARP Vice President of Hispanic/Latino Audience Strategy Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
The ceremony will be hosted by Maria Cardona, CNN commentator and Principal from the Dewey Square Group, who will introduce the presenters and awardees of the night. Among the awards that will recognize the hard work of the recipients are:
- Entrepreneurship Recognition Award
- Ophelia Rinaldi Recognition Award
- President’s Award
- Outstanding Public Health Award
- Outstanding Community Service Award
- Research Recognition Award
- Caregiving AARP Service Award
- Outstanding Public Policy Award
In addition to the awards, our celebration will feature artistic highlights to honor and celebrate Latino culture through dance performance and a musical ensemble.
