About Us
The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) is the leading national organization working to improve the lives of Hispanic older adults, their families and caregivers.
Headquartered in Washington, DC, NHCOA has been a strong voice dedicated to promoting, educating, and advocating for research, policy, and practice in the areas of economic security, health, and housing for more than 50 years.
In 2019, according to the US Census, there were 60.6 million Hispanics in the United States (18% of the nation’s total population), making people of Hispanic origin the nation’s largest ethnic/racial community of color. According to the Administration for Community Living, in 2017, there were roughly 4.2 million Hispanic older adults (ages 65 and older) in the United States, constituting 8% of the older population in the US. This number is expected to grow to 19.9 million by 2060, when Hispanic older adults will comprise 21% of the older adult population. In light of the rapid growth of the Latino aging population, NHCOA works to empower Hispanic older adults, their families and caregivers through leadership development to enable all people to age with dignity and in the best health possible, allowing all to become their own best advocates.
To achieve its mission, NHCOA has developed the Hispanic Aging Network, NHCOA ambassadors and NHCOA Leaders; a network of community-based organizations and grass roots leaders across the continental United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Latin America that reaches millions of Latinos each year. NHCOA works to ensure Hispanic/Latino communities are better understood and fairly represented in policies.
By encouraging multicultural dialogues and sharing the best of our talents, NHCOA believes in building a stronger America in which we can all age securely, with dignity, greater self-sufficiency, and in the best possible health.
