The event will take place on Thursday, December 8th and Friday, December 9th; both days starting at 6:00 pm (EST) and it will be streamed via Facebook Live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">This year\u2019s theme is <strong>Strengthening Communities: Creating Health Equity<\/strong>. The inspiration behind the theme was the life stories and realities that NHCOA collected while conducting a series of focus groups across the U.S. that focused on obesity, asthma, and the COVID-19 pandemic. The research underscores the injustices that many people in our communities face in regards to accessing health information, healthcare and treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\"><strong>Our awards ceremony is an opportunity to bring awareness to the need for health equity but also honor and celebrate those who have been putting in the good work to guarantee everyone has fair and easy access to health. <\/strong>Each of this year\u2019s honorees has led the mission of improving aging conditions and fighting for health equity from their own unique field. Their efforts have made a positive impact on thousands of lives inside and outside the U.S.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">Our awards ceremony honors trailblazers in 10 important categories. This year\u2019s awards and honorees include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-list\" style=\"font-size:15px\"><li>Research Recognition Award: <strong>Mirella D\u00edaz-Santos, <em>PhD<\/em>.<\/strong><\/li><li>Lifetime Achievement Award: <strong>Dr. Isabel Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong><\/li><li>Entrepreneurship Recognition Award: <strong>Sheila Thorne<\/strong><\/li><li>President&#8217;s Award: <strong>Michelle Kimbroug,<em> MA<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Service Award for Caregiving: <strong>Jason Resendez<\/strong><\/li><li>Special Recognition Award: <strong>Eugene \u201cGino\u201d Rinaldi, <em>MS<\/em><\/strong> &amp; <strong>Sandy Markwood<\/strong><\/li><li>Public Policy Award: <strong>Congressman John B. Larson<\/strong><\/li><li>Outstanding Public Health Award: <strong>Henry Pacheco, <em>MD<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Community Service Award: <strong>Rebecca L.D. Gordon, <em>JD <\/em><\/strong>&amp;&nbsp; <strong>Richard Alexander, <em>JD<\/em><\/strong><\/li><li>Ophelia Rinaldi Recognition Award: <strong>Juan Ramos, <em>PhD<\/em><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">The goal of our event is to bring together people who share our commitment to improving our communities and also serve as our biggest fundraising session. On both days, <strong>people will have the opportunity to support NHCOA\u2019s ongoing programs and upcoming projects for 2023<\/strong>. The ceremony will feature special guests and artistic performances. Both nights will have musical and dance numbers by Douglas Lira Band, Ardiente Dance Company and Samba Royalty. Joining us as host once again is Maria Cardona, CNN commentator and Principal from the Dewey Square Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">Our viewers will also have the opportunity to join a giveaway. <strong>The lucky winner will receive an Apple Watch Series 8. <\/strong>In addition to joining our Facebook Live streams, participants will also have to follow four easy steps in order to enter the raffle.
