We are now past the 4-year mark since the COVID-19 pandemic first began back in 2020.<\/strong> It\u2019s easy to forget, and it\u2019s tempting to throw caution to the wind out of a desire to \u201cgo back to normal.\u201d But it\u2019s important that we don\u2019t forget the impact that the pandemic has had on our society. The truth is that it continues to highlight the health inequity and disparities seen amongst the different communities and populations of the United States.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Hispanic Council on Aging, believes in a constant vigilance and mindfulness towards the well-being of Hispanic\/Latino communities, that otherwise might go neglected or ignored. Hispanic\/Latino communities have experienced a disproportionate impact from COVID-19, so it\u2019s absolutely necessary that they take advantage of the preventative measures available, including something as simple as going out and getting vaccinated.<\/strong> Fortunately, since the pandemic began, the CDC estimates<\/a> that about 84% of Hispanic\/Latino adults have completed the primary series of vaccinations against COVID-19. However, it also estimates that only 25.6% have received their updated booster shots. These updated booster shots are made to help combat new variants that are currently in circulation, by preparing our immune systems for their nuances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is an evident hesitancy in accepting new vaccines, especially for COVID-19, amongst Latino adults. It\u2019s most often driven by misconceptions on the safety and effectiveness of these vaccines, which generally arise from misinformation from disreputable or unreliable sources. This makes it particularly crucial that education and awareness surrounding COVID-19, its vaccination<\/a>, its treatments<\/a>, and its risk factors be wide spread, and based on real research.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
