The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) was recently awarded a\u00a02023 Thome Aging Well grant to support the expansion of NHCOA’s social connector program.<\/strong> With this program, NHCOA connects Latino older adults in Montgomery County, MD to the various social services they need to live healthily and comfortably, such as assistance with enrolling in health insurance, transportation to food banks and medical appointments<\/strong>. This wonderful program makes a point of delivering care through linguistically and culturally competent customer service, to a highly disadvantaged demographic<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Thome Aging Well program is a four-year, $19 million initiative from Enterprise Community Partner<\/a><\/strong>s<\/strong><\/a> (Enterprise) to help older adults living in affordable communities age safely and securely at home. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are thrilled to receive the support of the Enterprise Community Partners,\u201d said Dr. Yanira Cruz, President and CEO of NHCOA. \u201cOlder adults are facing more challenges than ever. Between ongoing waves of COVID-19, poor social security benefits, and the digital divide, it has become harder than ever for older adults to live healthily and comfortably in their homes. The Thome Aging Well Program exemplifies the core set of values that drives NHCOA, and this grant will go far in enabling Hispanic\/Latino older adults to receive the services they need.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Funded by the Edward N. and Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation, Bank of America trustee, the program awarded $6 million in grants this year to scale aging-in-place initiatives with a track record of success by 22 nonprofits in Maryland and Michigan.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In total, the 2023 Thome Aging Well grants will provide essential support to over 6,000 older adults to help enhance well-being, reduce isolation and allow them to age with dignity in their homes<\/strong>. Best practices learned from the grantees will be shared across the field of affordable and public housing providers serving older adults.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There is a deep need for continued support of organizations that serve the growing population of older adults who want to age in their homes and communities,\u201d said Stephany De Scisciolo, VP, Impact, Evaluation, and Population Health at Enterprise. \u201cFor this round of grants, we built on our previous success and extended the grant opportunity to any organization providing home-based services, including those who help older adults modify their homes to make it easier for them to continue to age in place.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
