In either case, <strong>the new calendar year of 2025 will bring big changes to your yearly health related expenses<\/strong>, specifically when it comes to the cost of your prescription drugs. If you\u2019re someone who pays high costs in prescription drugs, these changes could make a real difference in the yearly financial burden on your wallet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4282c1a9702c4f23d7816901d5b35870 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">There are two new key developments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-92fe4b3e5c9ea8f9afa610139c063513 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>A New Cap to Yearly Drug Costs: $2000<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-005559a48180ccef5e34d4f41cb524aa wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">This new development will apply to all Medicare Part D recipients, regardless of whether you enroll in its new optional payment plan. <strong>Starting in 2025, the total out-of-pocket bill that recipients pay for their prescription drugs, will be capped at $2,000.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e1886930a6b3491ea1e708f5a87da2d0 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">To be clear, this cap is limited to the drugs that are covered by your plan. Should you be prescribed drugs that are not covered by your plan, you could still end up paying more than $2,000 by the end of the calendar year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-349ad4067bae25ba0dcdd5cd98b87d53 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\"><strong>To take full advantage of this new development ahead of its start date on January 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2025, contact your plan provider to review your prescriptions and related coverage. <\/strong>If you are currently being prescribed drugs that are not covered, or if you expect to be prescribed drugs that are not covered, consider investigating a different plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b689e8b392a4ceaa1bc9616aad2abe10 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">A more expensive plan could very well be the more affordable option if you currently pay high costs for your prescription drugs due to poor coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-44a901b2a5ca60f49de4c5ae613d97ba wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>A New Payment Plan Option for Your Prescription Drugs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-160802f21158364194f60ea23b40221c wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">This new option is available to all Medicare Part D recipients, but requires enrollment; unlike the new cap to total out-of-pocket drug cost, this new option will not be applied to your plan unless you choose to enroll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-43b2b1a9d925b12333b84c43654bc8a9 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">Without this payment plan, Medicare Part D recipients pay a single total bill once a year for the total cost of their prescription drugs. For many recipients, this means a hefty toll on their finances happening all at once. This new payment plan is meant to change that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3839babb6c1c3cb8b0bcee2560972294 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\"><strong>Instead of paying one large bill every year, this new payment plan would allow recipients to spread out the cost of their prescription drugs across the year, paying a smaller bill every month.<\/strong> That being said, to make full of use of this payment plan, it is highly important that recipients enroll as early as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6435bfa20e60393ac6ff89bfaba4ee44 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\"><strong>If a recipient enrolls in time for 2025, their out-of-pocket drug costs will be spread out over 12 months, but if they were to enroll in March, their payments would only spread out over 9 months.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c5b97576895621d013a8b49585afe3dc wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">It\u2019s important to note, this plan does not lessen your costs, it only makes paying for your prescription drugs more manageable. Assuming all of your prescriptions are covered by your plan, you will never pay more than $2,000, and with this payment plan, that maximum would be spread out over 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-074679381567fd4449720f8baca45017 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">What\u2019s also important to note,<strong> is that this does not mean all bills will be an equal amount every month.<\/strong> And if any new prescriptions are taken on later in the year, they will only be spread out over the remaining months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-971a8cc447eb39c6569352e07416a8c9 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>So When Should You Enroll?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-731fb3f60e0f3a24110929a33a514e61 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">The short answer as to when you should enroll is as soon as possible. <strong>Open enrollment for Medicare, and for the Payment Plan, begins on October 15<sup>th<\/sup>, 2024, and ends on December 7<sup>th<\/sup> 2024<\/strong>. Enrolling within this timeframe will mean that your healthcare plan, and the payment plan, would begin immediately on January 1<sup>st<\/sup> 2025. This would guarantee you the best use of the new payment plan, as you could take full advantage of all 12 months to spread your bills across.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-dcd861c4535b725f6a91cc22e144a8f7 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">After open enrollment ends, <strong>the next possible time of enrollment is January 1<sup>st<\/sup>, 2025, and any time after that<\/strong>. However, waiting too long to enroll will affect how much the payment plan can do for your finances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5f623605199998d20db6cc4c7b38a1b8 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\"><strong>What if You\u2019re Not on Medicare Part D, but Want to Be?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4af0c162325f10edb4a354e8b010c912 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:15px\">This open enrollment period applies to all Medicare plans.
