Latino Empowerment: Marc Anthony

by nhcoa_media | Nov 13, 2025 | Blog

The National Hispanic Council on Aging is proud to close its 2025 Latino Empowerment Campaign with the highly renowned singer and salsa-artist, Marc Anthony, whose thorough career as a musician has made waves across the United States and Latin America. After a successful career spanning four decades, Anthony is recognized not only for his achievement in the music industry, but for his commitment to the representation and empowerment of the Latino Community.
Born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents in 1968, Marco Antonio Muñiz would release his first salsa album in 1993, titled, “Otra Notra.” Following his first album, Anthony made impressive strides throughout the rest of the 1990s with three more albums for a total of four across the 1990s. “Contra La Corriente” (1997), his third album, was the first salsa album to enter the Billboard 200 album chart.

Since his time as a burgeoning artist, Marc Anthony has led a career full of accolades, with 108 #1 Billboard hits, 27 nominations and 3 winning awards at the Latin Grammies, and countless more awards from various music associations. As of 2025, he has released 15 albums, and solidified himself as one of the all-time top-selling artists in the salsa genre, and as a highly renowned touring artist, with many entries in the Pollstar’s Global Top Grossing Concert Tours list.
Among Anthony’s most impressive achievements was founding the Maestro Cares Foundation, with Latin Entertainment producer, Henry Cárdenas. Maestro Cares is a dedicated philanthropic organization that carries out projects all over the United States and Latin America that aim to transform lives and empower communities. They list their six key priorities as, Children & Youth Homes, Schools & Educational Initiatives, Community Centers & Facilities, Sports & Recreational Spaces, Pediatric Medical Centers, and Temporary Pediatric Homes. Currently, Maestro Cares has 45 ongoing projects, and has helped over 15,000 children, and families.

The Maestro Cares Foundation is a superb example of philanthropy and positive intervention, with its priorities reflecting a keen understanding of lasting impact and the power of communities to create brighter futures for new generations. The National Hispanic Council on Aging applauds Maestro Cares, and we are thrilled to conclude this edition of the Latino Empowerment Campaign, with none other than Marc Anthony. Not only an esteemed and successful artist who spreads Latin music and culture, but a philanthropist aiming to empower others.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month, Marc Anthony!
