This year’s theme is Empowering Latinos to Address Health Inequities and will highlight critical health disparities affecting Hispanic/Latino communities, with a particular focus on obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular conditions, Medicare Advantage, and vaccines.
The briefing will feature Dr. Yanira Cruz, President & CEO of NHCOA, and Congressman Raul Ruiz, who will deliver the opening remarks and will be moderated by Cindy Padilla, former Chairwoman of NHCOA’s Board of Directors.
The event will also feature a distinguished panel of speakers including Sohini Gupta, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs and Innovations at AHIP; Dr. Ray Serrano, Director of Research and Policy at LULAC; Tricia Brooks, VP and Head of Office for Government Affairs & Policy at EISAI and Amy Hinojosa, President & CEO of MANA, A National Latina Organization. The event will conclude with closing remarks by Robert “Bob” Blancato, a member of NHCOA’s Board of Directors.
During the briefing, NHCOA will also release the 2024 Status of Hispanic Older Adults Report (SHOAR): Insights from the Field – Elevating Heart Health Awareness & Advocacy. This report details findings from surveys and focus groups, shedding light on heart health disparities within the Hispanic/Latino community and offering actionable policy recommendations. Key recommendations include expanding healthcare access, reforming step therapy practices, and enhancing Latino voter education to promote health equity.
NHCOA’s Capitol Hill Briefing draws a broad audience of community leaders, policymakers, advocates, and Hispanic older adults, with the clear objective of crafting meaningful discussions on how to empower the Hispanic/Latino population to age with dignity and good health.
The 2024 Capitol Hill Briefing would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors: PhRMA, Pfizer, AHIP, Eisai, Exelixis, and Eli Lilly. We greatly appreciate their support.
