Washington, D.C. – The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) will hold its annual Virtual Awards Ceremony and Fundraising: Strengthening Communities: Creating Health Equity. For the first time ever, NHCOA is hosting the event in a two-day special which allows the audience to have more time to celebrate the work of this year’s honorees and a bigger opportunity to shine light on pressing issues for the community such as the need to build health equity. The event will be developed on Thursday, December 8th and Friday, December 9th; both days starting at 6:00 pm (EST) via Facebook Live.

This year’s theme was inspired by the results of the 2022 research work and focus groups NHCOA held all over the U.S., in which the countless injustices that many members of our community face regarding health equity, were highlighted. We are paying homage to our community’s resilience but also  we are honoring a group of trailblazers who are helping and addressing health inequities, empowering women to age in their best health, and providing housing for older adults.

The Ceremony will celebrate outstanding individuals in more than 9 unique categories, honoring the work of different fields such as research, community service, entrepreneurship and caregiving. This year, NHCOA is proud to present its Outstanding Public Policy Award to one of the nation’s most fearless and exceptional leaders, Congressman John B. Larson.

Dr. Yanira Cruz, President and CEO of NHCOA, states “we are delighted to honor and celebrate Chairman Larson’s contributions to protecting the wellbeing of seniors. His commitment to protecting and strengthening Social Security is commendable, and we are grateful to him for ensuring the economic security of so many in our country”.

Congressman Larson not only has worked tirelessly for Social Security but also has been an advocate for important acts, focusing its latest work on COVID-19 relief plans, veterans well being and lowering healthcare costs for families and older adults, among other pressing issues.

Thank you to the National Hispanic Council on Aging for this honor. I am so proud to receive this year’s Outstanding Public Policy Award. Our work in Washington, D.C would not be possible without groups like the NHCOA, and leaders such as Dr. Cruz, who tirelessly advocate for Hispanic seniors, their families, and caregivers across the country to ensure their voices are heard. I look forward to continuing to work with remarkable organizations like the NHCOA so Social Security serves our nation for decades to come”, shares Congressman Larson.

As part of the celebration, fundraising sessions are being held on both days. This is an opportunity for attendees and members of the community to support next year’s work and allow NHCOA to keep serving as a strong voice dedicated to promoting, educating, and advocating for older adults.

In addition, the Ceremony will feature special guests and artistic performances that will highlight Latino culture and heritage through dance and musical numbers. The event will once again be hosted by Maria Cardona, CNN commentator and Principal from the Dewey Square Group.

The event is free and open to the public, you can RSVP at fb.me/e/3UCiUwqgZ.
