Washington, DC (December 15, 2021) – The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) released the following statement in response to the Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). This statement can be attributed to NHCOA President & CEO Yanira Cruz:
NHCOA is dedicated to advocating for accessible health care for all Americans. In light of a recent report put out by the PBM Accountability Project, NHCOA is joining the many voices who are asking policymakers to provide meaningful industry standards and transparency in the pharmaceutical industry.
Pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) play a crucial role in determining patient access and the cost of prescription drugs for consumers, but routinely prioritize profits over people. Living and aging in the best possible health should be a right, not a privilege; nobody should be paying dearly for the prescriptions they rely upon. It is time for policymakers to address the tactics of PBMs.
