Washington, D.C. – The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) will hold its annual Virtual Awards Ceremony: Celebrating our Diversity.
This year, NHCOA is holding its Annual Awards Ceremony to honor trailblazers for their hard work throughout the year on behalf of the community. This event is an opportunity to highlight the successes in the different issues that have been worked on throughout 2023, especially those led by Latinos. The event will take place on Thursday, December 7 starting at 6:00 pm (Eastern Time) via Facebook Live and NHCOA’s YouTube channel and will have Spanish subtitles.
This year’s theme is celebrating the diversity of the Latino community. A community that is increasingly gaining strength in our country and we continue to work to achieve the representation it deserves. This ceremony reflects the vibrant tapestry of life stories and experiences shared by members of our community inside and outside the United States. In a world marked by challenges and inequalities, Latinos remain strong and resilient, setting an example for us all.
On this occasion, we want to pay tribute to all the people who dedicate their work, effort, and expertise to improve the condition of our Latino community. We also pay tribute to those who help and address gender inequalities, empowering women to age healthy, and, those who believe in our work and are important pillars in empowering our seniors and work together with us to provide them with dignified housing.
The ceremony will celebrate outstanding individuals in 10 unique categories, honoring work in different fields such as research, community service, entrepreneurship, and caregiving, all of which celebrate the diversity of our community. This year’s honorees are as follows:
- Research Recognition Award: Dr. Luis D. Medina has demonstrated his commitment to improving the health of diverse populations through research.

This event allows us to bring together people who share our commitment to improving our communities, and recognize the diverse contributions Latinos have made in the arts, sciences, business, political spheres, and more. At this ceremony, people will have the opportunity to learn more about the people working around the programs we are currently developing at NHCOA and about the upcoming projects for 2024.
In addition, it is an opportunity for attendees and community members to be encouraged to support the work in the coming year which will allow NHCOA to continue to serve as a strong voice dedicated to promoting, educating, and advocating for older adults. Through our ongoing work, we can ensure that all older adults age with dignity, security, and in the best possible health.
We will also feature artistic performances highlighting Latino culture and heritage throughout the ceremony that will remind us of the cultural and artistic richness that identifies Latinos. The event will once again be hosted by Maria Cardona, CNN commentator and director of the Dewey Square Group.
