NHCOA Condemns Passage of “Big Beautiful Bill” and Its Devastating Medicaid Cuts

by nhcoa_media | Jul 3, 2025 | Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Following weeks of rushed debates and revisions, Congress has passed the Trump Administration’s domestic policy bill, so coined as the “Big Beautiful Bill.” This large and sweeping bill was approved earlier this week by the Senate, with a vote of 51 to 50, as Vice President JD Vance casted the tie-breaking vote. Returning to the House of Representatives, this bill once again squeaked through with a vote of 218 – 214.

This bill in its final version deals a devastating blow to United States healthcare. With nearly $1 trillion being cut from Medicaid, this bill has successfully endangered over 17 million Americans’ health insurance coverage.

The National Hispanic Council on Aging, as well as fellow organizations within the field of aging, understand the grim reality that the passage of this bill entails for older adults, which will be felt for generations. Moving forward, it is expected that every year, 51 thousand Americans will die due to lack of access to necessary care. These are needless, and preventable deaths.

In the face of this harsh new healthcare landscape, NHCOA reasserts our commitment to finding solutions that allow everyone to live in good health, and to age with dignity. Though it is a somber moment, and especially because it is so, we wish to remind older adults, their families, and their caregivers that you are not alone.

NHCOA will continue to be a voice of care and reason, with trusted information and sincere action during these changing times.

About NHCOA: NHCOA is the leading national organization working to improve the lives of Hispanic older adults, their families, and their caregivers. Headquartered in Washington, DC, NHCOA has been a strong voice dedicated to promoting, educating, and advocating for research, policy, and practice in the areas of economic security, health, and housing for Hispanic older adults, families, and caregivers for the last 51 years.
