The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) will host its annual Virtual Capitol Hill Briefing. This event will take place on September 26 from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm EST via GoToWebinar. During this event, NHCOA will address key health disparities among Latinos. This year’s research is focused on osteoporosis and the widespread health disparities that impact Hispanic/Latino communities. We will also highlight Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs), obesity, Alzheimer’s disease, updated COVID-19 treatment options and other issues such as health equity in nursing homes and housing.

Some of the speakers who will be joining us for this event include: the moderator of the event, Oscar Ramirez, a co-partner at Fulcrum Public Affairs; Dr. Yanira Cruz, President & CEO of NHCOA; Jorge Lambrinos, Chairman of NHCOA’s Board of Directors; Yarissa Reyes, Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Engagement at the Alzheimer’s Association; and Robert “Bob” Blancato, NHCOA’s member of the Board of Directors, among others.

In addition to our Virtual Capitol Briefing’s inclusive discussions, we are excited to announce the launch of our 2023 State of Hispanic Older Adults Report (SHOAR). This comprehensive report is the result of tireless efforts and extensive research, featuring valuable insights drawn from various sources. The SHOAR not only incorporates data collected through rigorous surveys but also integrates personal testimonies and experiences shared by individuals within the community. With the SHOAR, we aim to provide a comprehensive snapshot of the challenges and opportunities faced by Hispanic older adults and caregivers in today’s world.

Our Virtual Capitol Hill Briefing serves as a vital platform, engaging a diverse and inclusive audience, ranging from Hispanic older adults and caregivers to youth, providers, advocates, as well as esteemed community and political leaders. Given that Hispanics/Latinos represent one of the most rapidly expanding segments of the aging population in the United States, our discussions take on an added significance. We endeavor to explore and address the pressing concerns surrounding how this vibrant demographic can age gracefully, maintaining their dignity and experiencing optimal health throughout their golden years.

The Virtual Capitol Hill Briefing would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Lilly, PhRMA, Pfizer, Verizon, Better Medicare Alliance, Eisai, and Novo Nordisk. We greatly appreciate their support.
