The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) unveils its new “Women Leaders and Caregivers” training. The purpose of the training is to empower women by providing them with tools and strategies that enable them to fulfill their responsibilities in a successful manner. It also aims to empower Latinas in their role as leaders to create a positive impact on their families and communities. With this opportunity, NHCOA aims to gain a better understanding of the needs of women leaders and caregivers. This training will target women in different parts of the US and Latin America. By launching our training globally, we will be able to compare needs across regions.

The first iteration of the training will address topics such as mental health and self-care such as relaxation strategies for caregivers. Additionally, the training will highlight the role of caregivers as leaders and the influence they have on their environment. The training will describe the types of caregivers and describe the profile of the female caregiver, including their skills and functions.

The training will be guided by facilitators from NHCOA and invited experts, who will address the topics of leadership, women caregivers, and self-care strategies for caregivers.

The facilitators include Pedro Lima, Emerging Programs Coordinator; Christine Perez, Director of Programs; Margarita Navas, International Affairs Advisor; Ana Guzman, Mental Health Expert and also as special guest, Dr. Nancy Jimenez Rosario, Professor of Nursing at the University of Puerto Rico – Arecibo Campus. Session topics will include: “Understanding how to prepare when visiting a healthcare provider and key questions to prepare before that visit” and “The importance of recognizing fraud and abuse towards older adults.”

These trainings are free and will be conducted in person. The trainings are open to women caregivers and leaders. For questions, contact Christine Perez at events@nhcoa.org or 202-347-9733.
