NHCOA Celebrates Latino Representation in the 2026 U.S. Midterm Elections

by nhcoa_media | Nov 4, 2026 | Press Releases

The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) would like to express its gratitude to Latino voters nationwide who made their voices heard in the 2026 midterm elections. Representing almost a fifth of the U.S. population, and a substantial voter demographic, the Latino community made its voice heard this election. Among these voters, we feel a distinct pleasure in highlighting the impact of second- and third-generation Latinos. Often referred to as “No Sabo Kids,” their voices have been integral to the collective representation of the Latino community.

Every vote provided an opportunity to influence the decisions that affect our daily lives, shape the future of our communities, and ensure that the experiences and priorities of Latino families and older adults are part of our nation’s conversations.

Representation matters, and this election brought important milestones for Latino leadership. We congratulate Xavier Becerra on his historic election as California’s governor, making him the first directly elected Latino to hold the state’s highest office. We also congratulate Gina Hinojosa on her victory in Texas, where she will become the state’s first Latina governor. These victories represent more than milestones in representation. They bring to the forefront leaders who have championed issues that directly impact the lives of working families.

We also congratulate all the newly elected and re-elected officials and members of the United States Congress from across the country. With the privilege of public service comes a responsibility that extends beyond the voters who supported you. We urge every elected official to govern with a commitment to all people in the United States, to recognize the diverse experiences and needs of their communities, and hold them close in their future decisions. We must address the challenges facing Latino families and older adults, including access to affordable healthcare and economic security, as well as housing security, food security, and long-term services and supports.

Additionally, NHCOA acknowledges and congratulates the African American, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and American Indian leaders who were elected to public office across the country. Their victories represent meaningful milestones in terms of representation, reflecting the contributions and civic participation of communities whose voices are essential to our nation’s future.

As our nation moves forward, we are committed to advocating for policies that enable Latino older adults to age with dignity, security, and opportunity. The voices of our communities must be heard not only during elections, but in every legislative decision our representatives make.

Representation is important, but meaningful action is what makes it count.
