The National Hispanic Council on Aging (NHCOA) congratulates President Lula da Silva on his electoral victory and recognizes the importance of leadership that upholds the dignity, rights, and well-being of Brazil’s older population.
As Brazil’s population continues to age, NHCOA encourages the incoming administration to prioritize policies that address the everyday realities of older adults. This includes strengthening access to the public health system, ensuring adequate income and retirement security, combating food insecurity, and expanding access to affordable, quality long-term care and support for family caregivers.
We also emphasize the importance of protecting LGBTQ+ individuals, including older adults, from discrimination and violence; ensuring their equitable access to healthcare, social services, and support; and enabling them to age with dignity.
NHCOA urges President Lula and his administration to collaborate with older adults, caregivers, and community organizations to ensure their voices influence the policies that affect their lives. Building a society where people can safely age in place, remain connected to their communities, and access the care and resources they need must be a national priority.
We look forward to continued progress toward a Brazil where every older adult has the opportunity to live with dignity, security, and well-being.
